Bridgehampton School students in kindergarten through fifth grade gathered Friday, Sept. 25, for the school’s first elementary assembly of the year, with a special focus on International Peace Day and the importance of promoting peace around the world.

International Peace Day is celebrated each year on Sept. 21. During the assembly, students reflected on the meaning of the day and reflected on the Bridgehampton School’s Peace Pole, which was installed last school year as a symbol of hope and the school community’s commitment to peace around the world.

As part of Friday’s assembly, each grade level selected a country and presented its flag. Students taught their peers how to say “peace” in their country’s native language, giving everyone an opportunity to learn about different cultures and languages while reinforcing the universal message of peace.

The assembly also provided an opportunity to celebrate accomplishments and prepare students for a successful school year. Bridgehampton student Alondra Robledo was recognized for completing the Hampton Library Summer Reading Challenge, highlighting the importance of continuing to read and learn beyond the classroom.

While the elementary students were gathered, they reviewed important school rules and expectations for the year. A schoolwide scavenger hunt sent classes throughout the building in search of missing puzzle pieces. Along the way, students reviewed expectations for different areas of the school, including the cafeteria, hallways, bathrooms and at recess.

The first elementary assembly set a positive tone for the school year, combining learning, celebration and community-building while reminding students that small actions can contribute to a more peaceful and welcoming world.
