STEM Lab at Stony Brook

Bridgehampton’s eighth grade math class recently visited the STEM Lab at Stony Brook University where they engaged in an exploration of 3D printing and digital design. This field trip allowed students to see firsthand how STEM skills are shaping the future and igniting creativity in today’s world.During the visit, the class was introduced to Tinkercad, an online design tool that enables users to create digital models and bring their ideas to life using 3D printing technology. Under the expert guidance of the STEM Lab professionals, students applied key mathematical concepts, including geometric shapes, measurement and scaling techniques, to design unique 3D creations. This hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology reinforced the relevance of STEM education and deepened students’ understanding of how mathematics and technology intersect in real-world applications. By experimenting with digital modeling and 3D printing, they developed valuable problem-solving skills and gained a newfound appreciation for innovation in STEM fields.
