Bridgehampton eleventh and twelfth grade students attended a full-day
poetry writing workshop at the Watermill Center recently. The third
annual event was led by English teacher Mr. Tom House. The students
toured the Center and listened to an introduction of its history and
programs before selecting one of hundreds of fascinating objects from
around the world in the Center’s archives room to write ekphrastic poems
– poems that take art or objects as their subject or inspiration.
Students shared their impressive work at the end of the day in an
enlightening and lively round-circle slam. The Bridgehampton School is
grateful to the Watermill Center for continuing to host this exciting
program as well as to Mr. House and art teacher Ms. Robin Gianis who
served as a chaperone on the visit.
