Bridgehampton Families,
I hope all is well and you are enjoying your summer.
Last
week brought forth the release of several documents key to the
re-opening of our school this fall. On Monday, Governor Cuomo and the
Department of Health released their guidance about the health and safety
protocols that all schools need to adhere to when re-opening.
Additionally, the New York State Education Department did the same with
regard to the educational components. These documents are integral to
our upcoming work, as they will be used to guide our discussions and
decisions as we prepare a plan for the fall that is both educationally
sound and safe for all. Please view the guidance documents below.
Our
district has created a Re-Entry Task Force Committee and several
sub-committees (consisting of administrators, teachers, staff, parents,
etc.) dedicated to brainstorming various re-opening scenarios and
working out the details for each plan. As per the guidance from the
State each school district must develop plans for in-person, remote and
hybrid models of instruction. Our final document must be submitted to
the State for approval no later than July 31, 2020. Governor Cuomo has
stated that he will make his final decision on if schools will open in
the fall or remain of distance learning the first week of August.
In
addition to the re-opening guidance, the New York State Public High
School Athletic Association – the governing body for all athletics in
our State – announced last week that they were postponing the start
date for fall sports, and cancelled the fall regional and state
championships, as well as preparing for a condensed season schedule
beginning January 2021, should high school sports be unable to begin
this fall. According to the association, these decisions were guided
based on the Department of Health guidelines from July 13, which
currently prohibit interscholastic athletics across the State. As of
now, the new start date for fall sports is September 21, 2020. However,
this is pending final approval. As new information regarding this is
made available, we will be sure to share it with you.
The district is requesting all stakeholders to complete the following survey as we prepare for the 2020-2021 school year.

In
closing, I wish to once again thank our families, staff, students and
community for your support throughout this process – I know it has not
been an easy one, but we will get through it together. I wish you all a
restful and enjoyable summer.
