Woodhull Elementary School students and staff paused to remember and reflect about the historical importance of 9/11 and mark the 15th anniversary of “Patriot’s Day.”

In honor of the day, Superintendent of Schools Loretta Ferraro read from "The Man Who Walked Between the Towers" by Mordecai Gerstein. The book tells the story of Philippe Petit's walk on a tightrope between the twin towers in 1974. It was written as a memorial piece.

Students also created placards depicting the two towers over a red, white and blue heart, which were displayed on a bulletin board in the school's main hallway. Feeling a special connection to the day, one student –Jack Brennan – wore a military uniform to school that day to honor a family friend who was lost in the tragedy.
